My mind seems to run away of a night and of its own accord
And as it stumbles back I wonder “how much more of this can I afford”?
The present is the task in hand but I’m stuck in the future and the past
Sat somewhere and nodding but my mind is in the place I argued last

This modern world has much to show
And there is just too much to know
My attention can’t get hold of anything for long

I’ll be struggling for ideas and then the mist clears and I can think of one
But by the time I’ve found a pen the mist is back the idea’s gone
So I go out for a walk to try to recreate that ghostly thought
But with each step there’s another sign too brightly coloured to ignore

This modern world has much to show
And there is just too much to know
My attention can’t get hold of anything for long
This modern world won’t let you think
From the advert to the drink
It all takes you to the brink of sanity’s edge
